Biography

Sérgio Bordalo e Sá, born in 1976, has a college degree in Communication’s Science from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon (FCSH-NOVA, 1998), a Master’s Degree in Film Studies from The University of Iowa (2001) and a PhD in Artistic Studies – Studies of Cinema and Audiovisual from the Humanities School of the University of Lisbon (FLUL, 2013). His dissertation was about Portuguese film directors Lopes Ribeiro and Leitão de Barros in the context of propaganda cinema (Riefenstahl, Eisenstein and 'Mussolinian' cinema). After finishing the PhD, he had a scholarship for one year to work in CRIA (Centre for Research in Anthropology) in an academic project of cataloguing and building a database of touristic films. In June 2015, he started to work in INET-md branch of the Faculty of Human Kinetics (FMH) of the University of Lisbon, first with a postdoctoral scholarship and since April 2019 as an associated researcher, where he studies the relationship between dance and cinema. He was also an invited Adjunct-Professor in the School of Fine Arts and Design of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (2014) and in the College of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (2018/19).
