Biography
Currently Cecília works as a Professor at University of Lisbon - Faculdade de Motricidade Humana - Dance Course, where she teaches Contemporary Technique, Choreographic Composition, Stage Techniques and Production of Cultural Events. Alongside she is also Professor at the Doctoral Course in Digital-Media Art, from Universidade Aberta of Lisbon, where she teaches “Topics of Body Poetics and Digital Performance”.
Since 2014 she is a member of the Peer Reviewer Team for the Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices.
Since 1998, Cecília has been developing her carrier as a dancer and choreographer throughout Europe. From 2000 until 2006 she was a co-founder of Canvas Performing Art Dance Company (NL), where she co-created several multidisciplinary performances. Concurrently, she developed her work as a guest teacher at several universities underlining the Amsterdam Faculty of Arts -Modern Dance Course and the Arnhem ArtEZ Faculty of Arts - Dance Course (NL).
Within her education, she highlights the confrontation between a traditional classical training initiated at the School of the Portuguese National Ballet Company and a vanguard artistic learning developed at European Dance Development Centre in Arnhem - EDDC (NL). In 2008, she received her Master Degree from the Dance Unlimited- ArtEZ (NL), where she developed a practice-based research entitled ‘Sensorial Art- moving through the vertigo of affection’, with a scholarship from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
In 2017, she received her PhD Degree from the University of Lisbon – Faculdade de Motricidade Humana. Her research was developed with a full scholarship from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and is entitled: Transversal Thinking: The Art of Perceiving the World as the Paradox of Movement.
Her research work at the INET-md focus the relation of dance with phenomenology, cognitive sciences, somatic practices, artistic education and digital media. Her work has been published on several academic and artistic venues, and academic editions.
