Biography

Professor of Music Education in Escola Superior de Educação, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal and Visiting Professor in Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas, Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco. Member of Centro de Investigação em Psicologia da Música e Educação Musical from Escola Superior de Educação, Politécnico do Porto. MA and PhD in Music Education by the Institute of Education, University of London, under the supervision of Professor Keith Swanwick. Since the 80’s he has worked on teacher training in Portugal, main land, Madeira and Azores, but also in Cape Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Mozambique and Angola, as well as in Cyprus. He is member of the cientific counsils of the journal in education Medi@ções, from Escola Superior de Educação, Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, and of the journal Revista Portuguesa de Educação Artística from Direção de Serviços de Educação Artística e Multimédia, Secretaria Regional de Educação da Madeira. He has created and published pedagogical materials that include more than a hundred songs for children and 10 school books for Music Education. He has carried out research in pedagogical issues, such as: listening to recorded music in classroom; musical memory; music and body; musical theatre in schools; musical quality and assessment.
