INET-MD collaborates regularly with various private and public institutions that are involved in popular culture and music, providing consultancies and services drawing on the team's technical know-how and research results.

National Collaborations and Partnerships

The Fado Museum and INET collaborated in the preparation of the candidacy of fado to UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. This work involved several of INET's researchers who inventoried over a thousand historical 78 rpm recordings of fado in archives (Theatre Museum, Radio Archive, Radio Museum, etc.) as well as several thousand sheet music of fado with piano accompaniment. They also elaborated life histories of major fado musicians. INET is collaborating closely with the museum’s personnel in preparing the candidacy in 2008.

Within the framework of thesocial, economic and cultural regeneration of the city of Ílhavo, the local municipality has initiated a partnership with the Universidade de Aveiro (INET-MD).

National Sound Archive

INET-MD is the main consultant of the Ministry of Culture for the formation of a National Sound Archive. The Secretary of State for Culture appointed a member of the unit and its coordinator as head of a committee to elaborate a proposal for the founding of the National Sound Archive which will be launched in the Music Museum (Lisbon) in close collaboration with INET-MD.

This exposition, organized by INET-MD, featured an overview of styles and genres of popular music recorded in Portugal between 1960 and 1980. It presented phonograms and artists through iconography and music sound, highlighting the changes that occurred in popular music in this period. These changes were discussed in three round tables including scholars from INET and prominent musicians who gave their testimony:

International Collaborations and Partnerships

Europeana Sounds

The Europeana Sounds project was launched on 1 February 2014. This three-year project, co-funded by the European Commission, will give online access to a critical mass of audiovisual digital-objects by January 2017. Over 540,000 high quality sound recordings will be available via Europeana, from classical and folk music, to environmental sounds from the natural world as well as oral memories. The project, coordinated by The British Library, is a partnership among 24 national libraries, sound institutions, research centres, and universities from 12 European countries. INET-md is one of the partners.

Festival Dias de Música Electroacústica

Conservatório de Música de Seia - Collegium Musicum / Associação Fomento do Ensino Artístico | DGArtes (Direcção-Geral das Artes) / MC (Ministério da Cultura)

The first festival Dni Muzyki Portugalskiej w Krakowie, in 2003, was conceived and produced by Jaime Reis and Julia Chmielnik, in Poland. In 2006, it was the first edition of the festival Dias de Música Electroacústica, as a partnership between INET-md and Conservatório de Música de Seia, that was supported by the Ministry of Culture in other editions that took place in Seia, a city in a remote area of the interior of Portugal, as well as several activities involving young people and the promotion of contemporary music in general, bringing musicians from Spain, Germany, Turkey, UK to people who probably would never heard about these musical practices. Recently, these activities were expanded through other areas in the interior and in the south of Portugal, and also in Spain (Madrid), Brasil (Salvador da Bahia) and other countries.
